Book Review by David Galchenko
The book “Mission in the Old Testament” by Walter C. Kaiser Jr., even though a bit hard to read, was very interesting.
When hearing about mission, and the call to tell others about God, I would think of the New Testament and Jesus telling his disciples to go and preach the gospel to all of the world. I never thought of the Old Testament calling people to tell others about God. But, there is a call to Israel in the Old Testament to tell the other nations about Him, and this book helped me see that.
I can’t say that there was one point that I like in this book, because there was one theme, but I really liked one of the things that the author brings up.
I liked how the book showed three crises and promises from the Bible that lead up to the need of telling others of God. The first crisis being The Fall, because of which their came the need of a Savior for all people. The second was the flood, and God’s promise to dwell with his people. And the third was the Tower of Babel, and God giving people different languages.
